Agrupamento de Escolas de Penacova was founded on August 1st, 2010 as a result of the reorganization of the school network, at the recommendation of the Ministry of Education. The School immediately assumed the mission of providing a quality educational service, by building a School of the Present and for the Future, which requires all its stake holders to be fully committed to the process, and all agents to be mobilized and involved in the work of building a school with a new philosophy which, in an articulated way, between its different levels and teaching cycles, aims for a greater and better acquisition of knowledge, attitudes and values.

This School is located in a county with a lot of dispersed places. In fact, it takes some students more than an hour to make the journey home – school, which then  leads to physical wear and tear that does not encourage further study or school tasks at home. The different educational establishments are attended by children from middle-class families and from disadvantaged social backgrounds families.

The municipality of Penacova belongs to the district of Coimbra and comprises a territory of approximately 216.7 km2 of surface and about 14,100 inhabitants.

This School cluster, with headquarters at Penacova’s Basic School of the 2nd and 3rd Cycles with High School, is, in addition to the main school, composed by seven Kindergarten, three schools of the 1st cycle, two School Centers (kindergarten and 1st cycle), an integrated basic school (with 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles), totaling up to fourteen educational establishments, each maintaining its own identity and denomination.
